С глаголами типа to want, to need и словами, обозначающими какие-либо повреждения, необходимость, нужду, badly имеет усилительное значение: they want help badly им очень нужна помощь; he is badly in need of a haircut ему очень надо постричься; he was badly beaten его сильно избили; the bridge was badly damaged мост был сильно поврежден.
